Regional news: Apple prices plummet, heritage turkeys hot

New York State apple growers left fruit on the tree this season. Low prices made the cost of harvest too high.

Even at $10 a pound, heritage turkeys flew off the farm this Thanksgiving.

New York Farm Bureau President Dean Norton says the Farmer Omnibus Bill is bad for New York. "The agricultural economy in New York should not be taken for granted, and the policy choices made by the state in the next several years will have a big impact on whether or not New York can fulfill the demand for New York grown foods for New York consumers," Norton said.

Two dairy and one veal farm in New York chastised for using excessive antibiotics, a sign that animals are in unsanitary conditions.
