Local news: Assemblyman backs salt and trans fat bans for restaurants

A number of people are sounding off about a proposal to ban salt in restaurant preparation. From chefs to bloggers the idea is being panned as one that would ruin food as we know it. Assemblyman Felix Ortiz says it's inspired by his father's hypertension, which indeed is one of the leading causes of death in the United States, according to the Institute of Medicine. Ortiz has also backed a statewide ban on trans fats, also opposed by a new group called My Food. My Choice.

In other news, new research shows that grass-fed beef has lower levels of unhealthy fats and cholesterol.
