What better way to heat things up through the dreary months of late winter than to pair wines with spicy, soul-satisfying foods?! One taste of something laced with jalapenos, or chipotle, or horseradish, and you can feel the heat. Save your money on a warm-weather getaway and get away, instead, to the Hudson-Chatham Winery, where things will be “hot” on Saturday, February 6, from noon to 5:30 pm.
Featured at the Winery for the first-ever Heat in the Cold Event will be Larry Sombke of Larry's Sauces. A long-time Columbia County resident who now lives in Delmar, Larry has created a line of Southwestern Ranchero and Chipotle Sauces. These are original recipes inspired by the foods he loved while traveling in Mexico and the American Southwest. Made with healthy all-natural ingredients, these delicious sauces will bring the flavors of the Southwest to your table in dishes as varied as chili, tacos, pulled pork, quesadillas, and much more. He has some really great recipes for Super Bowl Sunday, too. One taste and you are seriously hooked!
We will also have jalapeño cheese from Harpersfield, Maple-Chipotle cheese from R&G, chutneys with zing from Beth's Farm Kitchen, homemade “hot” chocolates from Vasilow’s, and other spicy goodies. If you've been reluctant to pair spicy foods with wine, here's your chance to see how well they can complement each other. We even plan to have a special drink to cool the fires. Come add sizzle to your Saturday, and stock up for your Super Bowl party.
The Hudson-Chatham Winery is located at 1900 State Route 66 in Ghent, NY. Winery hours are Saturdays & Sundays, 12 noon to 5:30 pm. For more information, visit the website at
