This blog entry is brief and sad.
My cat Fuzzy was killed last week by two untrained local dogs who were wandering the neighborhood.
I can't blame the dogs; they were black Labs, a hunting breed, and Fuzzy was their prey. What they did was as natural as Fuz himself hunting field mice and birds.
I do blame the owner of the dogs, who probably abused and starved the dogs to make them vicious. At any rate he didn't train them. A big hunting dog is no use to itself or anyone else if it is untrained.
Anyway I can't write any more this week. Fuzzy was my friend and companion and also my responsibility. But just as it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a neighborhood to keep an animal safe.
I expect more from my beloved Hudson Valley.
