Howdy!  I am writing you because we are in the same area and I am looking for people to ride share to HVFN events.  I have fibromyalgia and mild cerebral palsy, so I cannot drive, and this area doesn’t have real para-transit, so I…

The 15-mile meal

Dinner last night was made entirely with ingredients from within 15 miles of my house, taking inspiration from the birch and maple sap I've been harvesting: maple sap braised pork belly, birch-parsnip ice cream, herb meringues, burdock-black trumpet purée, caramelized parsnips, and wild garlic. Read the whole post here.…See More

So sorry I missed this.  If someone falls out, I would be interested in 1/4.

I found a person, so you're in for a quarter. Stay tuned for info about the exact timing.

Does anyone want half a lamb from Northwind Farm? I don't need a whole one, but they won't take an order for just one half right now. Half will be around 35-45 pounds at $6.99 a pound, and you can pick up at the farm in Tivoli or the Red Hook winter market.

Nice Legs: Making Duck Confit

Cured, rinsed, dried off, and arranged to use the minimum volume possible so that my two quarts of fat will cover them.(Crossposted from cookblog). For Christmas eve dinner, we went to a party nearby with dear friends. This was a change from our original plan, but fortunately the original plan called for eight legs of duck confit so we were well prepared to…See More

You can come try it when it's ready. Probably in the spring, but maybe sooner. We should to a jelly-vinegar swap.

Sour Grapes: Making Vinegar At Home

What is it that finally pushes us over the edge, and motivates us to try something new? Even when it's something we're pretty sure is easy and know is rewarding, it can be a real effort to begin a new venture. I'm speaking culinarily, but it's true across all the areas of human endeavor. There's a resistance–a fear even–that…See More

Howdy!  I am writing you because we are in the same area and I am looking for people to ride share to HVFN events.  I have fibromyalgia and mild cerebral palsy, so I cannot drive, and this area doesn’t have real para-transit, so I cannot get to most things.  I’d be happy to share in the cost of gas.  If you are going to an event and you are OK with ridesharing, please send me a message about events you are attending and when you’d be leaving and returning and what you’d want in gas money.  It feels weird to contact strangers this way, but I figured if you’re in HVFN you must be “good people” and into community building and green living stuff.  Thanks a lot.  If this makes you uncomfortable or anything, don’t worry.  But if you are into it, just drop me a line.  Blessed being!  Heather PS I live on Rt 9W in the Village of Saugerties/Barclay Heights next to the Esopus Creek. Oh - when I lived in Co Clare Ireland all the old farmers wore suits in the field!

Howdy Peter - I'm planning on opening a Rondout-Valley focused 'LocallyGrown' virtual farmers market - learn more at http://www.locallygrown.net/ - these have the potential of solving all the challenges of CSAs, farmers markets, and buying clubs. Cheers,
Ethan
