Even though I grew up off the grid and am handy with maple sugaring, birthing cows, milking goats, getting eggs from chickens, and foraging - plus a whle bunch of oher 1970s off the grid stuff - No seed I have ever planted grew to full adulthood.
When I saw the beautiful package for the Hudson Valley Seed Co's heirloom native sunflowers, I knew I had to try. This is very exciting for me because it was a sacred gift to the land community I now live with. I wanted to add to the biodiversity and bring someone home. The deer ate half of them, but I did say it was an offering, so they got their part - and I hope their poop carries the seeds elsewhere! There are about 7 more flowering, so tall, for the bees, bugs, and birds. In my "spiritual" practice bioregional animism (I don't believe in the spiritual/material dualism so that term is wrong) the key focus is having good relationships with the land where I live. Doing restorative and regenerative things like this are the key and I am soooooo happy it worked! THANK YOU HUDSON VALLEY SEEDS!
I had bought a ton more of your seeds but I have fiibromyalgia so gardening is hard and am allergic to sunlight so gardening is very hard. My idea was a container garden in the sunroom but it didn't work out. The seeds are now in the capable hands of a friend in Vermont on SSI who feeds her three kids a lot from her community garden plot. yay!
