I heard about this on a news talk radio program...  Looking for feedback and opinions...  Have any of you heard about this yet?

It says they'll last 20 years...  Does that sound true?

Do any of you have seed banks?

Are any of you so concerned about GMO that you are starting seed collections or is this all hype to create a market?

I think that survival seed bank is a bit hyped.

But, what I think is relevant is the work a few are doing around here - Hudson Valley Seed Library, Collective Seed and Poughkeepsie Farm Project. They're building a base of locally grown and saved seeds. And building up a collection of a variety of plants, since our big corporation approach to everything in the past two decades has diminished the diversity of seed base.

NY Times did a nice story on it a couple years ago. I just did a google search for it and found they've actually been writing about this since at least 1981!!
The suruvual seed bank is contrived and apocolyptic. However there is a local seed library seedlibrary.org which is attempting to re-establish varities once grown in the Hudson Valley. Excellent idea and an outstanding assortment of seeds available to gardeners. I am trying out the Apple Green egg plant this spring. Just sown seeds indoors last week. Will see how they go with my chiles in a stir fry or with something on the grill
