Hudson Valley Homebrewers & Beer Geeks

Many of the founding fathers were known for their prolific home beer production. Home-brewing beer should be considered a patriotic duty as well as a joy.

Brewer's Notes

My first homebrew batch, a double IPA from a kit. Protip: Obey the instructions when they say to stop bottling it if the siphon starts passing "silt." 3 out of 4 of the beers were awesome but every once in a while we'd get a super-yeasty exploder on our hands.

My upcoming attempt will be off of a recipe instead.

Hey kids, I just came across a neat site for brewing Q&A: http://homebrew.stackexchange.com/

Go forth and acquire knowledge so that homebrew swaps in the Hudson Valley shall be bountiful.

I'd be interested in talking about the barley field. Hops are also easy to grow, and our climate is perfect for them. Do you have a plan for malting the barley once it's harvested? Seems like a lot of work, but the thought of a beer not just homebrewed but "homegrown" is tantalizing!

I have a small, one acre, field I am considering planting in barley (or rye) if there are enough people interested in working with it.

Cave Mountain in Windham! Outsanding fresh beer and superb onion rings!

Quick note--goat loin marinated in IPA with rosemary, garlic, black pepper and a dash of cumin really takes in the flavor.

Cook it right in the marinade, flipping halfway through so it soaks into both sides.
