Hi Liz.

Funny that you should bring this up as we will be starting classes at Pleasant Stone Farm (Health Food Store and Organic Cafe) in Ellenville on that very topic. Jason Rosenberg will be leading us. He came to one of our expos as a vendor. He's currently foraging on a regular basis and actually gathers edible that he sells. I applaud you for starting this thread.

Yours in health,

Benoit

Benoit-

Thanks for the info. When will the classes be starting?

:) liz

Hi Liz,

It's in the works (along with a lot of other classes) as many wonderful individuals make themselves known to us in Ellenville. I am waiting to hear back from Jason as to when he wants to get started. Keep checking our website or our Facebook profile for updates.

Yours in health,

Benoit

thanks!

I organized a free foraging walk last year through the site. I know two veterans who are enthusiastic and love to share their knowledge with others. We walked at the CIA, but we could certainly pick another site or walk private land. They can find dozens of things to eat in your back yard. I've also heard good things about Jason Rosenberg.

Meghan-I would love to do a walk. Are you interested in doing another one?

liz

Yes, I would be. I've got quite a lot going on, but i can coordinate the people. Can others suggest or offer good sites to walk? My main expert lives in Westchester, so he doesn't know what areas have what plants. I also think it should be somewhat soon, because early spring edibles are very prolific.
I would love to learn more as well and would love to see a walk organized in the Catskill area.

The Catskill area works for me too(I live in Hudson).

I live in Catskill. I wish I knew more and we could start our own group.
I know a very little bit, but I really want to learn more! I would love to start a meet up group, and I think I know of a few others who would like to learn, but I need to track down someone more knowledgeable, preferably somewhat local.

Slow Food Upper Deleware River Valley is hosting a Foraging Walk and Lunch, in North Branch.  I took the info below, from Pure-catskills.... (parenthesized commentary mine -wg):

11am to 2 pm May 21st

Walk with noted herbalist Nathaniel Whitmore (nice guy; knows a bunch) to forage for your lunch.  You will bring your found wild edibles back to the Old North branch Inn (really sweet spot!) and prepare a lunch with these ingredients and others sourced by visiting chef and innkeeper Mona Jess Coade-Wingate.  Enrollment is limited.  Please email your reservation to upderiva@gmail.com or call 845-866-1484.

(Slow Food UpDeRiva has a sorely out of date website, but they are getting back into the game - I went to a really nice breakfast pot luck recently -  and have a facebook page that is relatively up to date.)
