Farmers Against NAIS

This group is for the many of us who are tired of "Big Business" dictating policy and forcing the small, local guys to pay the price. I will do my best to keep all of the members on top of all the developments in the Govt'.

NAIS will put Livestock owners under closer surveillance than terrorists, illegals aliens, drug dealers, and convicted sex offenders/child molesters. Currently, only convicted sex offenders/child molesters have to register their premises

Ok, well thanks to Miss Murphy, I am able to post here again. You see I have very limited access to a computer so I do most of my ramblings from my phone, and now HVFN is hooked up on my phone......but anyway, thanks Megan

So here's a quick update, I have been reluctant to say "NAIS" is "OVER" do to the nature of our Govt' and how they operate. So, in hearing this news, I wasn't surprised.......Mr. Miller, a plain farmer from Wisconsin, will sit in court AGAIN because his wonderful state hurried to pass the "Premises Registration" law last year. Now even though the NAIS program was dismantled in Feb. This law is on the books now......Mr. Miller refuses to register his land due to "religious right", and so be it. This State needs to remove this law, and clear Mr. Millers name.......I will be updating soon, thanks

Just found this bit of good news in my inbox: http://www.farmanddairy.com/news/usda-sets-sights-on-new-plan-for-n.... It looks like the NAIS program is at least going to be reworked with small and organic farmers considered rather than a system weighted toward agribusiness farms.

With being so busy during the 2009 farmers market season I am not up to date on where things are going with the NAIS program right now. I can say I have been pretty infuriated by NYS assigning premise IDs to farms within the state (lucky me, I have one) and the American Dairy Goat Association's support of the program. Not only would NAIS impact small family farms negatively but children doing 4H projects would be subject to similar surveillance.

Look, I'm getting all flustered just beginning to think about this whole thing again. Speak out against this invasion of farmer's and families' privacy.
