Hi All,

What is the yummiest thing that you've canned so far this season ? I spent 7 hours making apple butter las weekend but it was so good I think I might be in for another 7 hours this weekend.

And the apple tomato chutney recipe too! Please!
Do you use any green tomatoes ? have two bushes of unripe juliett tomatoes and I'm going to have to do something with them soon. Please do share the tomato apple chutney recipe.
I'm happy to! Just need to get my notes together. I'll try to post them tonight. Go green tomatoes!
Green Tomato and Apple Chutney

3 cups of green tomatoes, cored, chunky dice
(you can peel these if you want, but the skins don't bother me and it's an extra bothersome step)
3 cups of apples, cored, peeled, chunky dice
(I like Ida Reds and Stayman Winesaps)

1 garlic clove
Juice of one medium lemon (about 1 Tablespoon)
2 cups brown sugar
2 Tablespoons grated fresh ginger
1 1/2 teaspoons of kosher (or pickling, or sea) salt
2 cups cider vinegar

Put it all together in a non-reactive, sturdy pot and cook it for about two hours. Taste it, add whatever spices you think you want, or leave it plain (just don't delete the lemon juice, or vinegar). A bit before you think it will be ready, get your water boiling and have your jars prepped (i.e. hot). Ladle into hot jars. Make sure you check for air bubbles (it's chunky and creates lots of air pockets.) Process in water bath for fifteen minutes.

Makes about 6 half-pint jars. You can process them in pint jars, but I thought that was too much.

This was great on lamb burgers. One jar I put in the food processor (when I opened it in February) and whizzed it to be smoother. In June I had two pints left and used them up by dumping in a crock pot with a shoulder of meat and made pulled pork! So good.

Let me know if it looks like I left anything out...
I totally forgot the onion and raisins and had a dream about it. Argh! I knew I would do that.

1 medium onion, chopped
1 cup of raisins (I like golden sultanas)

Sorry!
Hi there Julia. This is perfect for the seasonal timing. I plan on pulling my tomatoes this weekend and am looking for alternative recipes for canning. Can you share your green tomato and apple chutney recipe? Will you? Thanks
I like making applesauce. It's fast and easy if you don't peel the apples. I add juice and dried fruit, then cook it down until the apples fall apart.
