What is the yummiest thing that you've canned so far this season ? I spent 7 hours making apple butter las weekend but it was so good I think I might be in for another 7 hours this weekend.

Fruit butters have been big with me this summer, especially since I do it in the crock pot--easy, peasy. You might do this also, but if you don't you might want to try it!
so far I've only done apple butter but I'm thinking of doing peach butter if I can find any peaches. And I suppose pear butter should be on that list also.
I have been having fun with the beautiful peaches this season, (just got my last box ); Peach salsa, Peach chutney and Peach Jam- I also froze skinned peach slices for smoothie additions or to add to warm morning porridge, a quick sauce, etc.

this weekend it's on to apples.....
Peaches were great this year!
Yes they really were some of the best I've had in a very long time...I've been stretching out the season, but sadly it is really over....ah well.
What are everyones favorites for the wonderful apples that are being harvested now?
I also froze a bunch of peaches and plum to use in smoothies, pies and tarts over the next few months. But I will miss the fresh ones terribly. They were so good.
You can use your frozen fruit to make jam, too! It's nice to save an activity that creates a lot of heat for the cold weather.
You gave me and idea: How about Apple Salsa? They sell a really good one at Wallkill View Farms. Super spicy and the apples lend a nice sweetness. I'm going to experiment! Also, a friend of mine used to have pie making parties, making apple pies to freeze for use later...
Also don't forget that many of our local farms have "Green Tomatoes" that will most likely never get to the juicy red stage. Even though they may not be out don't be afraid to ask, they will be happy to pass them along, probobly at a great price too. Green tomatoes are wonderful made into a nice spicy pickle or combined with other ingredients for canning.
I had a great green tomato chutney at the phillies bridge canning workshop. Definitely going to try making my own.
I am totally excited for my green tomatoes. It's like a new harvest. This year I'm making pickles and green tomato jam. Last year I made green tomato and apple chutney.
Hi Julia,
Could you please share your recipe for Green Tomato pickles? Thanks!
