Last of the seasons Peaches turn out to be the best of the season

This rainy season was hard on the stone fruits. Local peaches were pretty awful. BUT yesterday I stopped in at Montgomery Orchards on 9G in Red Hook looking for apples. Surprisingly they had some amazing late peaches. Great taste. Great texture. They freeze well in a light sugar syrup. Great for pies, pancakes, muffins. A half bushel of peaches in the freezer makes me very happy!
