Hey Canners and Jammers- 

 

Get in touch with HVFN member Jen Clapp about a strawberry jam class coming up this Sunday in Beacon!

 

The following weekend of June 10-11-12 there is a great food preservation class at Omega taught by Audra Wolfe of the great preserving blog, Doris and Jilly Cook.

 

And I should be doing a canning class in July in Ulster Park.

 

Have you started putting up?

Thanks for posting that, Jim! Tell your wife I say: delicious work! I'm watching my rhubarb daily, but also have a marmalade on deck as I write.

soon be time for rhubarb chutney, but this grapefruit marmalade my wife made is 'da bomb' and I'm not even that big a fan of marmalade!

Yes, we do have berry picking guides! I divided them by fruit, and usually put them up on the site when the berry picking begins. But I should make a home for them in the food sources section.

Cathy - I love Thompson Finch Farms in Ancram (Columbia county). They are organic, and have a lot of different fruits. They seem to be adding more kinds yearly. But their strawberries are what they're known for, and what they've been doing for years. It's a bit of a cruise, but you can make a day out of it: swing by Lake Taghkanic afterwards to go swimming!

I am looking for a lo-spray or no spray farm to pick berries; strawberries in Ulster or Orange county?  Any ideas?

where are the good u-picks (and by good i mean not super $$ and kid friendly and good fruit) around dutchess? we did our apples from Lawrence Farms (so great for kids!) and i hear they do strawberries as well....any tips from veteran hudson valley folk?
