There is a new shop in New Paltz called Scarborough Fare that creates infused oils, but I don't think their oils are native.
Cayuga Pure Organics recently started making a local (Finger lakes, I believe) Sunflower Oil, they are an excellent resource generally speaking for beans and grains - not sure about nuts though.
Great question. Would not there have to be a place that grows nuts locally in order for local oils to exist. I know people say they have local coffee but they are buying coffee beans raw and roasting them locally. There might be some seed oils available if someone is growing enough sunflowers or pumpkins. The closest I ever found is California. There are great Buddhist inspired stories about gaining enlightenment pressing sesame seeds. Any takers?

Kaela Porter posted this on the Facebook page: I use Stolor Organics sunflower oil, grown & made in central NY. http://www.stolororganics.com/organic-shop/pc/Organic-Sunflower-Oil-c2.htm

Cayuga's sunflower oil is very good, and there's another company up there making oils from squash seeds:

thank you everyone for the great resources...keep them coming if you think of others.

Peter , have you tasted the squash seed oils?  they sound really delicious.

I bought a squash seed oil on a recent trip to Maine. It's super nutty and delicious! I'm sure it would get your creative chef juices flowing.
I use a pumpkinseed oil that is amazing, but it's from Austria. I'm going to look up the local one, cool! Thanks for this thread, Cathy! I've also tried the sunflower seed oil mentioned here, it's really lovely, and *very* sunflowery. : )
A few years ago our Valley Table staff found a Grape Seed Oil from the Finger Lakes. Produced from a grower's co-op. It's got a high smoke point so it's perfect for searing. It had a nice nutty flavor and it's from antioxidant-rich grapes. Valley Table issue # 39. You can order on line at concordgrapejuice.com
I've had this (I read about it in the Valley Table!) and it's great!
Hi Cathy, I've bought the Stony Brook Finger Lakes Butternut Squash Oil at Rogowskis Farm Store and have loved using it on greens, grains, warm salads... i'ts slightly sweet and, well...nutty! I believe they make oil from other squash seeds as well. Would love to find local nuts/seeds as well.  Janet, will look for the grapeseed oil too. Hope all is well!
