SUMMARY:Tractor Safety Certification Course for Teens
DESCRIPTION:Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County is offering
  a tractor safety certification program for youth. The course meets Tu
 esday and Thursday evenings from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the Stone Ridge F
 ire House located on Route 209, beginning March 18, 2010.\n\nClasses w
 ill be held on March 18, 23, 25, 30 and April 1 with hands-on driving 
 practice on Thursday, April 15 and Friday, April 16 at 3:00pm. The dri
 ving test is Saturday, April 17 at 8:00am. The fee for the course is $
 20 for currently enrolled 4-H members; $30 for general public. Space i
 s limited to the first 20 paid registrants, on a first come first serv
 ed basis.\n\nThis National Safe Tractor Training Program enables young
  workers (ages 14-19) to obtain a US Department of Labor Certificate o
 f Training certification which is required to operate farm tractors an
 d equipment. The course is open to anyone 13 years of age and older, h
 owever, only those 14 and older will be able to drive and become certi
 fied. Participants learn important safety skills and gain an advantage
  when seeking employment at a lawn or landscaping business, golf cours
 e or farm. The instructor, Grant DeWitt, is an Ulster County 4-H alumn
 us who holds a degree in Agricultural Engineering from SUNY Cobleskill
  and a former qualifier at the National level in the 4-H Tractor Opera
