Event Description

Hickory BBQ & Smokehouse, noted for serving customers hearty plates of freshly prepared barbecue foods, will be raising money for the Chilean area earthquake relief effort by donating all proceeds from sales of “Doc Hickory’s Chili” at the restaurant to Habitat for Humanity’s Disaster Response Fund. The fundraiser will take place on Sunday, March 14 at the restaurant located at 743 Route 28 in the town of Kingston.

The chili, which has won the award of “Kingston’s Best Restaurant Chili” in the Kingston Chili Cookoff four year’s running as well as “Best in the Hudson Valley” by Hudson Valley Magazine, will be produced entirely at the restaurant featuring beef – partially donated by Nat Kagan Meats of Woodridge, NY – and will be sold at the restaurant by cup or bowl for dine-in customers or in one-quart pre-packaged containers for $12.00 to go.

Habitat for Humanity will mobilize all available resources to address shelter solutions for low-income families affected by the 8.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Chile on February 27, 2010. Habitat for Humanity Chile has provided more than 3,500 families with adequate housing since 1998 and has extensive training in working in disaster recovery.

Habitat’s ability to respond effectively to this disaster will require support from donors, volunteers, churches, corporate partners and other community organizations. Donation made will help families rebuild and repair homes.

Hickory is located at 743 Route 28 between Kingston and Woodstock. Open daily for lunch and dinner, Hickory is owned and operated by husband and wife Steve and Jill Slutzky. The casual, family-oriented restaurant opened in the autumn of 2002 and from the beginning has enjoyed a reputation as the Hudson Valley’s finest barbecue-style restaurant. In addition to Steve & Jill, the restaurant is staffed by Steve’s parents (Ma and Doc Hickory).
